I looked at the mixes and didn't like the prices, so I looked around to see what I could come up with and ended up at a local sawmill and got a load of sawdust that had been aged for quite some time.
For fertilizer I'm using rabbit manure tea with a bit of clay dirt thrown in for minerals.
The seeds are just starting to sprout, so we'll see how it goes.
Our topsoil here is a pretty heavy clay. Good stuff for an organic garden, but not so great for potting.

Yeah, that sound like a plan. Keep me posted. How much sawdust did you get?

Hey, did you ever figure a way to get your Rabbit Runs built?

I got a pickup load of sawdust. They loaded it for $8. That mill rarely (if ever) cuts walnut, so it should be good. My broccoli is sprouting now.
As for the Rabbit Runs, I'm really excited about them. They aren't quite ready for sale, having been delayed a week or two, as I saw ways to make some notable improvements mainly related to ease of assembly and ease of use. I'm actually heading out to work on finishing the prototype now, and hope to have it ready in a couple of days if I don't end up waiting on parts.
They should be ready for sale sometime next week in limited quantities. I'm expecting final assembly to take about an hour for a new customer and introductory pricing to be under $200.

    Cool deal.

Keep me posted on the Rabbit Runs. We could do a show.
